If you haven’t been living under a rock this past summer, you would know that the popular couple, Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello released their hit duet Senorita in late June of 2016.
According to the Fader,
"the song is an airy, mid-tempo Latin pop track that charts the course of a brief, charged affair, the lyrics hitting a sweet spot of sounding sexy without being sexual, flirty without being crass, fun without being goofy. The whole internet went insane over the release of the song and the music video (as so did I) and it’s because there is so much passion between the two musicians. Another major reason was that there were rumors going around social media that two recently starting dating.
For anyone who might not know about the most talked-about couple this year, here’s is the backstory:
Shawn and Camilla have known each other and become best friends for almost five years now. They have made songs together in the past, such as I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Although, there wasn’t that much hype between the two because, at the time, Camilla and Shawn weren’t that public about their friendship. The duet seemed kind of another random opportunity for two artists to come together and collaborate.
Anyways, when Senorita came out four years later, everyone online literally went crazy.
One reason was that right before the release of the video, Camilla recently broke off her relationship with Matthew Hussey.
Only days later, there were photos going around of Camilla and Shawn kissing at a public place in San Fransisco.
The second reason, of course, were the rumors that Camila and Shawn were actually dating. They two never made the relationship public before the song came out; therefore, there were many uncertain speculations about the two being romantically together.
Finally, the third reason was that the song and music video itself was extremely passionate and romantic. It would be impossible for the two to not develop any feelings for each other during the making of the song or the video.
Eventually, the two announced that they were officially together through social media posts. After their announcement, they would perform the song live with so much passion and love that it was like you are intruding on their private moment.

This live performance was watched over 20 million times, so you could infer that this performance was very passionate.
Now that you know the backstory of the song, let’s get into the steamy lyrics:

These lyrics definitely refer to having a physical connection with someone that you cannot get enough of. While the words are a little inappropriate, once you actually read them you get over that once you hear the instrumentals.

These lyrics literally tell the story of how the couple met. From reading Camilla’s verse, I can assume that she had a feeling that she would eventually fall for Shawn. It was just a matter of time.
Once you think about it, it’s kind of sweet how the two are describing their interactions with each other. It takes a lot of guts to create this intimate music, especially when you are liked by so many girls around the world.

When I read Shawn’s verse, I immediately knew what he was talking about. There were photos and videos going around the internet of the couple at a Miami beach. The two were publicly intimate with each other but did not know that they were being filmed.

As you can see, the lyrics are definitely directed towards the couple’s interaction with each other romantically.
Let’s move on to the actual video.
The video itself is about Camilla and Shawn falling for each other. It’s steamy, romantic, and a little inappropriate for younger views; however, this video has been loved by many fans and cannot get enough of the happy couple.
It has been viewed almost 1 billion times in just a span of six months. You can guess that from the amount of views the video has had, you are in for a treat.
I would have to say that my favorite part in the video is when Shawn and Camila are dancing together. Mostly because they posted the behind the scenes of the making of the video. They showed clips of the two rehearsing the dance and Shawn literally dropped Camilla.

In conclusion, I would say that Senorita is a great song to listen to if you are feeling a little saucy or in the groove for some Latin music. I don’t really listen to Spanish music, so what I love about this song is that it’s a mix of Latin and Pop.
